Abigail Hoyer, Intern

Hi, I’m Abigail! (She/Her),

As a therapist, I believe there are two "experts" in the room, you being the expert in yourself, your lived experience, and me having the mental health counseling education and practice. I work curiously and collaboratively with your body, mind, behaviors, and environment in areas of mindfulness, agency, and power, helping you find motivation for change. I believe counseling is a process of transformation that takes bravery and safe connection while tuning into the wisdom of the body. We work together to create that "gap moment" where you choose how you want to be in relationship to yourself and the world. Some of the tools I use to encourage mental and emotional flexibility are somatic (body) work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, attachment theory, parts work, and relational-cultural therapy.

I am a queer cisgender woman, an adoring mama, and I absolutely love women's soccer. I was born in Portland, OR and lived some of my younger years in Baja, Mexico. I enjoy cooking and baking, reading, coloring, being cozy, and spending time near water or around trees.

Specialty: LGBTQIA2S+ children, teens, and adults. Sex positive. Religion and spirituality, trauma, significant life changes, loss/grief, exploring/late in life queer identities

I am best for people who: are curious, queer (or questioning), any non-traditional relationship or family structures (poly, ENM, relationship anarchy), dealing with separating/divorce/coparenting, parents/parenting in general, exploring religious/spiritual identity

Education: Antioch University, currently working toward a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Biola University, Bachelors in Theological Studies. The Embody Lab, certificate in Somatic CBT.

Telehealth Status: Provides both in-person and telehealth

Supervision: Abigail works under the supervision of Mirit Markowitz
